[O-05] Relationship between earth science community and nuclear power plants - Hamaoka nuclear plant as an example

Sun. May 22, 2016 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Convention Hall B (2F)

Convener:*Satoshi Kaneshima(Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Kyushu University), Manabu Hashimoto(Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University), Takeshi Sagiya(Disaster Mitigation Research Center, Nagoya University), Hitoshi Kawakatsu(Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), Daisuke Suetsugu(Institute of Research on Earth Evolution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Chair:Daisuke Suetsugu(Institute of Research on Earth Evolution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Manabu Hashimoto(Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University)

The Hamaoka nuclear power plant, Shizuoka, is located right above the expected fault plane of a forthcoming mega-thrust earthquake. Various hazard mitigation programs have been deployed based on the assessments of disasters following the earthquake and tsunami. Therefore it would be considered as a unique nuclear power plant that may symbolize the relationship between the earth science community and the nuclear power plants. In this session, focusing on the Hamaoka plant, we shall discuss about the state of the art earth science researches associated with the plant, historical assessments of the relationship between earth science and the plant hitherto, and possible future relationship.
