[P-EM08] Inner magnetosphere: Latest results and new perspectives

Mon. May 23, 2016 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 103 (1F)

Convener:*Danny Summers(Memorial University of Newfoundland), Yusuke Ebihara(Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere, Kyoto University), Yoshizumi Miyoshi(Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, Nagoya University), Chair:Yoshizumi Miyoshi(Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, Nagoya University)

Earth's ring current and radiation belts are key components of the inner magnetosphere, together with the plasmasphere and ionosphere. This session concentrates on the latest results on the inner magnetosphere and the new science revealed in particular by the Van Allen Probes and other space missions. Current topics of interest include radial transport mechanisms, particle energization and loss processes, particle injections from the plasma sheet, wave-particle interactions, evolution of ULF waves, auroral and sub-auroral dynamics, magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, and global dynamics. Submissions on all aspects of inner magnetospheric physics are welcome, including not only observational studies, but also modeling, simulations and theory. In anticipation of the launch of the Japanese spacecraft ERG, expected in FY 2016, we also welcome presentations related to the radiation belt science that ERG is designed to investigate.
