[S-TT53] Contribution of luminescence dating to geosciences

Luminescence dating is a method to estimate geological ages based on the measurement of luminescence emitted from mineral grains. Recent technical progress has made luminescence dating an exclusive method that is reliably and universally applied to geological records over the last hundreds of thousand years. The nature of the luminescence, which is reset by the exposure to the light and/or heat, adds the potential of this technique to solve various geoscience problems other than chronology, and some efforts have been attempted. For further development and dissemination of the luminescence dating, this session reviews the basics and application of the luminescence dating and specific problems in the application to the geology of Japan as well as invites various case studies. Participants who have relevant research interests are welcome to join the discussion to seek new research collaboration.
