[U-04] Employment and work-life-balance of female geoscientists in Japan: International and Interdisciplinary comparison

Mon. May 21, 2018 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 103 (1F International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Naomi Harada(Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Rie Hori, S.(Department of Earth Science, Faculty of Science, Ehime University), Chiaki T. Oguchi(埼玉大学大学院理工学研究科, 共同), Wonsuh Song(Hosei University), Chairperson:Harada Naomi, Hori Rie, Song Wonsuh

Female employment rates in Japanese academic societies remain low, although anti-discrimination laws have been adopted. Several reasons are often pointed out:
1) disregarding of work-life balance; and 2) unconscious bias revealed in the results from the large-scale survey report by EPMEWSE (Japan Inter-Society Liaison Association Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Engineering). In order to consider these problems, we will collect helpful information such as role models and good systems of research institutes and universities. Presentations relating this issues, from not only Japanese but also foreign researchers and students working or studying in Japan, are highly welcome in this session. Based on these topics, we will compare the differences among countries and consider better strategies of this matter. This session collaborates with a gender equality session, EOS7, in EGU2018 and we will share and exchange current status information with EGU society.
