[U-07] Future Earth-GRPs integration for global environmental research
Sun. May 20, 2018 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM 103 (1F International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)
convener:Reiichiro Ishii(Research Institute for Humanity and Nature), Tetsuzo Yasunari(Research Institute for Humanity and Nature), Makoto Taniguchi(総合地球環境学研究所, 共同), Hein Mallee(Research Institute for Humanity and Nature), Chairperson:Taniguchi Makoto, Ishii Reiichiro, Mallee Hein
Since its kickoff in 2015 Future Earth (FE) has developed to integrate a broad range of sciences relating to the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and human-geosphere. In Japan and the Asian region, JpGU has played a substantial role in promoting FE activity by hosting consecutive FE-related Union Sessions to enhance the discussions on geoscience and human dimension sciences. The voices of the scientists involved in FE-Global Research Projects (GRPs) and related research communities in this region, however, have not always reached to or been reflected in the Future Earth Global agenda and governance, which has made it relatively difficult for Asian scientists to fully engage with FE.
To fill the gaps between them and Future Earth Global and to enable the whole FE community to evolve more scientifically around global environmental issues, we here propose a Union Session in JpGU to provide an arena for the scientists from GRPs and related research communities mainly working in Japan and Asian region to support them in:
1. Sharing and exchanging information among GRPs and the related communities by inviting local GRPs' representatives;
2. Collecting the newest information about the FE-Global's activities and visions by inviting representatives of FE-Japan's Global Hub and the Future Earth Asia Centre;
3. Discussing plausible plans as regional initiatives to be reflected in the future agenda of Future Earth Global.
