[ACG37-01] Towards the establishment of the post-MAHASRI science plan

The MAHASRI project was successfully finished in March 2016. It was a reginal hydroclimate project (RHP) of GEWEX Hydroclimatological Panel (GHP) focused on the establishment of hydro-meteorological prediction system, particulary up to seasonal time-scale, through better scientific understanding of Asian monsoon variability. It accomplished wide areas of outcomes, scientific findings, and impacts during these 10 years. It is the time to launch another RHP, post-MAHASRI project, that represent the Asian monsoon hydroclimate research.
We will now discuss the scientific plan for the post-MAHASRI project. It will be based on the achievements of MAHASRI project, above mentioned scientific findings as well as the strong and wide research collaborations among monsoon Asian countries, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Mongolia and others. It will be consisted of various sub-regional autonomous research projects. The post-MAHASRI project will combine these projects associated with the Asian monsoon system, and will conduct the second phase of AMY (AMY-II), a coordinated observational initiative. The Tibetan Plateau also have to be a focus of the post-MAHASRI, because of its role in the dynamics of the Asian monsoon circulation. The research communities of the hydroclimatology and cryosphere in the Tibetan Plateau must be important research partners of the post-MAHASRI project. New modelling and remote-sensing technologies will facilitate high-resolution diagnostics and predictions of hydrological and climatological processes.
In the present paper, we will discuss about the initial science plan of post-MAHASRI project, based on several workshops that will have been held before the JpGU. We are expecting to launch the project within this year.
