[G03-02] The Creation of Educational Standard Sign Kit for Evacuation Facilities
Keywords:disaster reduction, disaster education, sign system
Education and simulation contribute towards the knowledge and skills essential for disaster preparedness. People sometimes are forced to move to an evacuation shelter and have to stay there for several weeks or more in the worst cases. In such cases, victims have to face post-disaster stress and adapt themselves to shelter life. For the purpose of conducting drills at school, we propose the creation of standard sign kit for evacuation facilities. The signs are printed on water-repellent papers at low cost and can save space during periods of no-use. A few signs from the kit have been used at a public elementary school in Tsukubamirai City, Ibaraki, in Japan. The kits also can be provided as digital files and thus distributed to all schools via an electronic distribution system. Disaster drills using the kits can make school children greater awareness of the threat of hazards and of the need and possibility to become better prepared before disasters strike.
