[G05-04] Points to note on enhancing the ability to “think, make decisions, and express ideas” of geographic education in upper secondary school
Keywords:upper secondary school education, logical thinking
It is necessary to enhance the ability to “think, make decisions, and express ideas.” The essential point is whether the conclusion can be deduced from the information or not. However, there are many situations in high school that are not suited to improving this ability. These inappropriate activities lead students away from favorable abilities. In this presentation, I both categorize some points to note on enhancing the ability and introduce practical activities.
The points include the following:
* Satisfying the necessary and sufficient conditions
* Distinguishing between correlation and causation
* Comparing data appropriately
* Refraining from using data for arbitrary conclusions
* Avoiding cherry picking
* Accepting the conclusion, even if it is an unimaginable one
