Keywords:Sayama Formation, Zoshki tephra, early Pleistocene

We described an early Pleistocene tephra detected in the upper part of Sayama Formation, Sayama Hills, Kanto Plain, Northeast Japan. The age of Zoshki tephra has not been well discussed although its fission track age of 1.4±0.2 Ma was obtained by previous study. In this study, we correlated this tephra with Akatsuka A10 tephra and Byobugaura Ob5.1 tephra. Age of Ob5.1 determined to be 1.182–1.219 Ma indicates the age of the upper part of Sayama Formation is around 1.2 Ma.
