[HTT15-P04] Mountain green cover index: Case study of Sripada Mountain in Sri Lanka

In align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), the goal 15, the target 15.4, and the indicator 15.4.2, this research measures the green cover of the Sripada Mountain area, one of the world heritages site in Sri Lanka. In this study, we discuss the changes of green vegetations, grassland, cropland, settlements, and other lands to track the indicator 15.4.2. Subsequently, we measure the direct correlation between the green coverage of the Sripada Mountain area and other driving factors in reducing or increasing of the green vegetation, such as land clearing, urbanization, forest exploitation, timber extraction, and illegal encroachments. We forecast the situation in the year 2030 and backcast to remedy the situation to align with achieving the sustainable development goal 15, target 15.4.
