The geopark assistance committee of Seismological Society of Japan, which has been established to assist geopark activity, to disperse seismological knowledge, and to progress researches, held a seismological workshop “Seismology in Geopark activities I” last year during JpGU. Furthermore, the committee conducted participants questionnaire on the workshop to know the evaluation of the workshop and subjects of next workshop. We report here the content of the workshop and the results of the questionnaire.

In the seismological workshop “Seismology in Geopark activities I”, we provided two topics: (1) “How to use earthquake observation data (introduced by Makoto Matsubara, NIED)” and (2) “Seafloor topography in subduction zones around Japan (introduced by Azusa Nishizawa, JCG)”. In the workshop, we had participants from 10 geoparks with pre-registration and eight geoparks and JGN secretariat without pre-registration. Participants asked questions on the data presented in the workshop, availability and how to use.

After the workshop, we conducted questionnaire to the participants on the workshop: the depth of understanding, with or without application example, date, length of time, next subjects, etc. For the content of the lectures, earthquake observation stations and data of JCG, most participants almost understand them and want to try to use them. For date, the duration of JpGU is suitable. For time, the opinions split two, right and short, reflecting possibly background knowledge of the participants. For next subjects, many topics has been presented, for examples, earthquake disaster prevention, education on earthquake, seismicity and seismic structure in Japan. We consider that successive seismological workshop is needed and is useful for geopark activity.

Acknowledgement: We are grateful the Secretariat of JGN for their cooperation of the seismological warokshop.
