[MIS17-08] Plumes observation in offshore Shionomisaki of Wakayama prefecture over the past five years

*Chiharu Aoyama1, Tomoka Mizukami1 (1.Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology)

Keywords:Plume, Quantitative Echo Sounder, Shionomisaki

Numerous plumes are seeping naturally from seafloor at 1700m depth at offshore Shinomisaki of Wakayama prefecture. The author has been collaborating with Wakayama prefecture to conduct observations of these plumes. Scientific quantitative echo sounder onboard “KINOKUNI” (99ton), a research vessel of Wakayama Prefectural Fisheries Experiment Station, was used to examine the relationship between volume backscattering strength (SV) and the change in tide level, as well as submarine topography. The author will report the examination from the observation results.
