[MIS21-01] On the revision of the proposal ‘Frontier of the Polar Science’: action to the master plan 2020

The master plan of large scale research projects by Science Council of Japan has been a set of proposals to be executed for the next ten years. We expected the funding possibility for the prioritized proposals selected from the master plan proposals. However, recent budget condition of MEXT has decreased possibility of successful funding for the master plan proposals, and the meaning of master plan is being significantly changed. Our proposal for the Master Plan 2017, ‘Frontier of Polar Science’, was to install a platform in the polar region in order to contribute to the understanding the global environmental change by providing invaluable information from the Antarctic and the Arctic region. The discussion of how to revise this proposal for polar sciences should be considered according to how the Science Council of Japan is changing the master plan 2020. The purpose of this presentation is to report recent changes on situation of the master plan of Science Council of Japan and their funding conditions, and to start and accelerate discussions on the next revision of the proposal on polar sciences for the master plan 2020, which is announced to be a completely new master plan.
