[O02-P41] Simultaneous observation and Analysis of Sprite

*Minori Nishida1, Shunya Ueda1, Marina Higa1 (1.Hyogo prefectural Kobe high school Earthscience club )

Keywords:TLE, sprite, 3D conversion

1.Purpose
We want to reveal three-dimensional structure of high altitude luminous phenomenon, or sprite. We always shoot sprites with two cameras that we installed in our club room. This fiscal year, we made two 3D models of sprites. Also, we researched the positional relationship between the lightning strike points and sprites. After that, we considered the relationship between lightning current value and the number of sprites.

2.Method of 3D conversion
(1)Make a real model of sprites with data that we collected and from other schools.
(2)Use SpriteAnalyzer to calculate altitude, latitude and longitude based on elevation angle and azimuth angle.
(3)Organize those information in Excel.
(4)Make a 3D model with FluxPlayer.

3.Research and Consideration
Data of lightning was offered by Franklinjapan. We researched the positional relationship between the lightning strike points and sprites. In the December event the distance between thunder and the center of the sprite was 4.2 km. It was 24.3 km at the November event.

Next, we considered the relationship between lightning current value and number of sprites. The current value of the thunder, which is considered to be the cause of the December event, was 101 kA. At the November event it was 270 kA. In the previous study, it is reported that there is a positive correlation between the current value of lightning and the number of sprites. We added data of two sprites observed this fiscal year to this data and considered it.
