[O06-P14] The role of Geopark connecting science and residents
~ Izu Oshima · Thinking through collapse slope monitoring survey ~
Izu Oshima, in November 2006, seeds containing alien species were sowed from helicopters in order to stabilize the collapse slope after sediment-related disasters occurred in October of H25. At the Izu Oshima geopark, a project team was launched in March 2007 and a monitoring survey began.
Members of the project seam continue to investigate on the basis of the geopark connection at the Ministry of the Environment, Japan Meteorological Agency, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, the secretariat of the Izu Oshima Geopark promotion committee, the Izu Oshima geopark geo guide association, the Oshima nature lover association etc etc. Every 1 to 2 months, we measure and quantify the amount and kind of plants, the height of trees, weather information (rainfall and wind speed etc.), the amount of sediment and litter (leaves and fallen leaves) that flowed out.
In the Izu Oshima geopark, in March 2009, the monitoring meeting meeting and the field observation meeting were held in March 2009 in order to return these findings to the residents on a regular basis and "to promote understanding and disaster prevention awareness to the area in which they live" went. We will hold a similar report meeting and field observation society in March of 30 years, we will listen and summarize opinions from participating residents.
We believe geoparks play a role in connecting science with local residents of various positions.
