Moto-Shirane volcano, which is part of Kusatsu-Shirane volcano, erupted on 23 January 2018 after 1500 years dormancy. One parson died and 11 other people were injured by the ballistic ejecta of this phreatic eruption. The ballistic ejecta from the eruption also hit the summit station of ropeway and the nine gondola lifts in operation. We have conducted a preliminary survey of the damage situation of the gondola lifts stored in the mountain-foot ropeway station. We report the damage situation of the gondola lifts.
