A record heavy rain event occurred in July 2018 around western Japan, which caused lots of flood and sediment disasters. The toll of dead and missing was more than 200. The heavy rain was followed by a record heat wave. The highest temperature in a day reached 41.1 degrees Celsius in Kumagaya, which is an all-time high in Japan. This year also suffered from typhoons over and over again. In July 2017, there was another heavy rain event in northern Kyushu area, which also caused tremendous damage. The aims of this session are to discuss factors that caused weather disasters in recent years, and to clarify those impact on the atmosphere and hydrosphere as well as on human beings.
