[H-RE17] Application of earth science data towards the renewable energy field

Tue. May 28, 2019 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 301B (3F)

convener:Hideaki Ohtake(National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Fumichika Uno(National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Teruhisa Shimada(Graduate School of Science and Technology, Hirosaki University), Daisuke Nohara(Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry), Chairperson:Hideaki Ohtake(National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST))

Renewable energy (RE) penetration is increasing dramatically in the world. RE power generations have made their presence felt in an electric power system. However, it is a challenge for RE to be stable power sources due in part to natural variability of RE and the distributed resources. For effective use of RE, a combination between power resources and energy storage technologies (e.g., pumped-storage power generation, storage battery system and electric vehicle) is required to provide power and energy flexibility. Therefore, we need to understand the amount of REs, causes of variation, and the predictability of power output. Then, enormous and diverse observation data sets and modeling technologies from earth science field should be analyzed and applied to power energy field to achieve easy use of earth science databases.
This proposed session needs your presentation from the whole of RE fields (solar power, wind power, geothermal power, tidal power, wave power and biomass power generations). Our goal of this session is to exchange views with various researchers between RE field and earth science field (e.g., usage-trends of earth science datasets for RE field, the subjects in hand, earth science datasets availability, and cooperation between RE and earth science fields, and so on).
