In 2017, the curriculum guidelines for elementary and junior high school were announced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In addition high school curriculum guidelines were announced in 2018.
These guidelines show "What we learn for (goals and contents of subjects and courses)" and "How to learn (improvement of learning course)" in order to foster student qualities and abilities.
They also highlight how to develop a curriculum which is open to society and share the common understanding of "fostering of student qualities and abilities".
Furthermore, High School/University Articulation Reforms will be regarded as important to considering the contents of university education and the admissions so that the results at elementary and secondary education are carried over to university education, and academic ability is reliably fostered.
Earth and planetary science education also needs to clarify "what we learn for" and respond to what society demands, proposing inquiry activities through observation and experiments in the learning process.
This session aims to deepen understanding about expectations for new earth and planetary science education and issues to be solved by participants from various viewpoints, including teachers, researchers, students, and citizens.
