[AOS08-03] The temporal and spatial variability of the Kuroshio in the East China Sea and its associated mechanisms

*Yanzhou Wei1 (1.State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics, Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, Hangzhou, China)

Keywords:Kuroshio, East China Sea

The Kuroshio is a strong western boundary current of the North Pacific subtropical gyre. It transports huge amounts of heat and nutrients poleward, and has a profound effect on the hydrography, fisheries, and climate of countries surrounding the Northwestern Pacific. As such, the temporal and spatial variability of the Kuroshio on multiple scales is of wide interest to the oceanographic and climate communities. In this study, we examine the temporal and spatial variability of the Kuroshio based on long term hydrographic observation and satellite data, and discuss the associated mechanisms.
