[MIS17-P04] Analysis of reconstruction processes after the 1707 Hoei eruption of Fuji Volcano based on old maps

Fuji erupted in 1707, and a large amount of volcanic ash was deposited at its foot. The villages in the eastern part of the Shizuoka prefecture were covered with volcanic ash of about 1 m, so the residents began removing volcanic ash. In this study, we clarified how the volcanic ash removal was carried out by using an old map. On the old map are drawn the plots filled with ash fall due to the eruption. Compared to current maps, many of the plots are found to have been in the marginal areas of slightly elevated lands and villages away from the river.
