[G01-03] The cases of the limit of dam impoundment during floods and necessity of information sharing at local disaster prevention

Two major flood of the 2018 Japan floods (heavy rain and flood disaster in the western Japan), Takahashi River in Okayama and Hiji River in Ehime had emergency discharge from managed dams in upper streams. The interpretation, especially the decision of success or failure of dam management is difficult. However, there are some concerns of local residents, and the fact of worsening of terms of natural condition due to global warning and sand accumulation in dam lakes.
Thus, we listed the similar cases of the 2018 floods, which occurred with emergency discharge at the upstream from a dam. Total 65 cases are compiled from web databases for the previous 60 years newspaper articles in Yomiuri, Asahi and Mainichi (Japanese 3 major dailies). The list shows recurrence cases of flood with discharge from same dam and tendency of “the limit of dam” of decrepit structure. While, educational effect are appear by information sharing between dam management and residents.
