Keywords:oyster farming, waste bamboo, local resource, environmental improvement
The shelves for oyster farming in the Matsushima Bay, Miyagi Prefecture are made of many Moso bamboos. Those bamboos, as being soaked in sea water, become degraded within about three years and be replaced by new ones. As the result, the used bamboos change into waste. It is estimated that about 40 to 50 thousands waste bamboos per year appear from oyster farming in the Matsushima Bay. This study presents that the author's attempts to reutilize these waste bamboos as resources which may contribute to local agriculture and environmental improvement.
