Keywords:Drilling Vessel Chikyu, IODP, Science Drilling Support

It has been 14 years passed since deep drilling vessel "Chikyu" delivered to Japan Agency of Marine-Science and Technology Center (here after JAMSTEC) in July, 2005. D/V Chikyu is one of main drilling platforms in the frame work of International Drilling program which was cerebrated the just 50th anniversary by 2018. During the period, getting improvements of drilling technology, Chikyu performed remodel and reform aging laboratory equipment and a scientific support activity. Her drilling records are “16” expeditions, the number of days of more than 1000 days, 350 participants from 27 countries in scientific drilling project, 41 km drilling lengths, deepest water depth of 6,928.5 m (Exp.343), 101 drilling holes, 5.6 km cumulative collected core lengths, 1060 cores and more than 3,262.5 m of deepest hole records (Exp.358) since Exp.314 the first mission of IODP (as of February 2019). We are doing scientific services modeled after D/V Joides Resolution led by USA and investigating a questionnaire and request to the laboratory performed at the time of a sailing end of each time. Data management, a QC system and data delivery service to a researcher are being performed so that the quality of the data service may be also kept in a constant and to some amount of level. There are widely and many aspects of scientific support activities as carrying site survey, documentation and preparation for audit of scientific drilling, planning of stratigraphic inspection and data quality check. Wide range of activity as well as witness of operation, data process, delivery and report making support are carried out. Onboard scientific drilling workshop putting on the past data acquired so far at the same area, and new proposal system of Chikyu Shallow piston Core Program (SCORE) are running. Chikyu provides a realistic environment for researchers to concentrate on and throw themselves into research activities. A various categorized core schools for the next generation and other research field participants are also supporting. Logging schools are long running beyond 10 years and collaborating with Asian countries. The support activity with the enormous volume of data, the researcher and the engineer who surround "Chikyu" from the view point of scientific support are discussed and promoted deepened and more profoundly.
