[O03-P33] Conservation activities for bivalve fossils by Muroto High School Students
Keywords:fossil, natural monument, Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark
Miocene deep-sea bivalve fossils are located at the coast of Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark (Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture). These are the one of the pieces of evidences of repeated uplifts of the land of Muroto. Although most parts of the coast of the city are designated as a quasi-national park and protected by the natural park law, we do not have the way to protect the fossils themselves. Therefore, we (high school students) submitted an application to the city, requesting these fossils be designated a City Natural Monument, in an attempt to get them widely known. We explain the significance of the conservation of the deep-sea bivalve fossils and our activities in this presentation.
