[O08-P02] Strategy for revaluation and promotion of Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark through SDGs

Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido. The whole area of Date City, Toyoura Town, Sobetsu Town and Toyako Town is included in the geopark area. In the area, we have the following program which corresponds to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). In "Goal 4: Quality education", promotion of ESD (education for sustainable development) is promoted, and "Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities" includes reductions of victims in natural disasters, regional comprehensive Disaster risk reduction is included.
The disaster prevention leader "Volcano Meister" qualified in the area has lectures of not only the guided tour of the field study to observe the craters and the disaster remains but also the eruption disaster and the life in the shelter. They also offer courses to learn volcanic activities and disasters using outdoor learning textbooks, hazard maps (volcanic disaster prevention maps), equipment that understands volcanic eruptions. In addition to this, we are implementing initiatives related to the achievement of several SDGs. Regarding these efforts, we will further enhance the contents so that more people can use it.
Geopark is a place where you can enjoy various attractions related to the activities of the earth. At the same time, it is a place where you can think about a sustainable society through concrete examples such as natural disasters. Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark is an area where the practice of reducing disaster education has been continued aiming at co-existence with active volcano which continues eruptions. As a UNESCO World Geopark, we will continue to enhance regional education and to promote information dissemination for domestic and overseas as well as improve tourist and trainee acceptance. In this presentation, we will introduce specific measures for that.
