[H-CG24] Enhancing Integrated Research for Sustainable Future - a human geoscience perspective

convener:Yukio Himiyama(Emeritus Professor, Hokkaido University of Education), Takeshi Sakurai(Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo), Akihiko Kondoh(Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University)

Global environmental programmes have been re-structured under the framework of Future Earth, and Future Earth is playing increasingly important role in guiding and coordinating research for the world sustainability, and in contributing to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which has also been impressively successful in mobilizing and leading the society to the more sustainable paths at global, regional, national and local levels. Human geoscience, which has been built on geoscience which studies dynamic nature and phenomena of the Earth including lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, is uniquely committed to human sphere, where human and its various activities, the environment, global environmental problems and disasters all exist and human dimensions of global change is of primary importance, and hence assumes important roles in Future Earth, SDGs, and other programmes for global sustainability or disaster risk reduction. This session relates to all these, and is intended to discuss crucial issues related with them and to seek right ways to implement needed integrated research for sustainable future in human geoscience perspective.
