[M-GI37] Integration of Earth Observations and Multiple Use for Earth Science and Benefits to Societies - GEO
convener:Hiroyuki Muraoka(River Basin Research Center), Kentaro Ando(Japan Agency for Marine and Earth Science and Technology), Osamu Ochiai(Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), Shinichi Sobue(Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency)
Earthquakes and tsunamis, floods and drought, environment deterioration and pollution, global warming and island losing, and ecosystem degradation endanger the security of water, food, energy, health and ecosystem services. To confront these challenges, there is a demand to foster its application capacity and to develop integrated, sharable, and sustained observation systems. Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is a partnership of 107 national governments including Japan and 132 Participating Organizations that envisions a future where decisions and actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated, comprehensive and sustained Earth observations. There is a unique regional activity focusing on the Asia-Oceania (AO) region which poses big challenges to the society with its large population, various and fast environmental changes and frequent natural disasters. To develop such capacity, it is necessary to promote a regional cooperation on earth observation with various communities. AOGEO aims to foster regional application activities focusing on water security, biodiversity, carbon and greenhouse gas, ocean and islands, and food security, etc. It is also seeking data sharing, Open Data Cube for AO region and user engagement and communication.
This session aims to 1) introduce the current status of data integration efforts in GEO and AOGEO, 2) engage any contributions of similar activities from outside of GEO and AOGEO, and 3) activate GEO and AOGEO activities and its related activities via any submissions and contributions of analysis of earth observations both from integrated data and single unique data on the earth science and societal applications. We seek submissions which include a) scientific researches by use of earth observation data from various platforms including satellite and in-situ, b) development of new data sets for national, regional and global analyses, and c) development of data integration platform and its broad application.
