[S-IT30] Tectonic collision systems in continents and oceans
convener:Ling Bai(ITP Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences), James Mori(Earthquake Hazards Division, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University), Xiaodong Song(University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Yuzo Ishikawa(The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology)
Collisions between continental plates and between continental and oceanic plates resulted in the formation of significant orogen and subduction systems worldwide, including the deepest trough and highest mountain in East Asia. The tectonic structures and seismic hazards associated with the collision processes have long been studied in order to understand fundamental features in these different tectonic environments. We invite contributions from scientists working across various temporal and spatial scales on problems related to lithosphere and mantle dynamics and surface processes for the collision zones. This session will provide a platform to encourage collaborations in all related disciplines, including geomorphology, paleoseismology, structural geology, tectonics, seismology, geodesy, and modeling.
