[AAS06-13] Tropical cyclone activity in South China Sea and the link with ENSO events

*Chun Lei Liu1 (1.Guangdong Ocean University)

Keywords:Tropical cyclone, South China Sea, ENSO

The occurrence and development of tropical cyclones (TC) in South China Sea over last 50 years have been investigated, and the links with ENSO events have been studied. The occurrence frequency of TCs varies with the ENSO index, and there is a positive correlation before 2007 with the ENSO index leading TC frequency about 6 months, and an anti-phase correlation after 2007. The mechanism behind these relations has been studied by investigating the sea surface temperature and ocean heat content variations.
