[AAS15-P07] Characteristics of Variation of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer Affected by the Gust Fronts
Keywords:356-meter meteorology tower in Shenzhen, gust front, atmospheric boundary layer
Based on the meteorological data and the eddy covariance data obtained from the 356-meter meteorology tower in Shenzhen, China, the characteristics of the vertical variation of the atmospheric boundary layer affected by the gust fronts were analysed. Our study found that the gust fronts had a significant impact on the low-level structure of the atmospheric boundary layer in the eastern Pearl River Estuary. The near-surface boundary layer changed from an unstable boundary layer to a stable boundary layer quickly, accompanied by a short-term drastic reduction in temperature, as well as enhancement in humidity and wind speed, and abrupt change in wind direction. The turbulent kinetic energy and the friction velocity in the lower boundary layer increase significantly, the vertical wind speed fluctuates sharply, and the vertical wind shear increases during the passing of the gust fronts. Our research will help to deepen the understanding of the vertical structure of the gust front in the coastal city, and provides a reference for the forecast and early warning of the strength of the near-surface gale caused by the gust fronts.
