[G04-03] Outreach of Earth and Planetary Sciences in early childhood education
-What we see from actual teaching examples-
Keywords:early childhood education, natural science classroom, actual teaching examples
The nonprofit organization of Science and Art has been conducting natural science classes for young children in kindergartens in the Kanto area. Above all, teaching earth and planetary science to young children, we feel much more difficult than other subjects such as biology, science, and physics. Of all curricula, themes related to earth and planetary science are one-quarter of the total and have become popular classrooms. Some children have been attending for three to four years, and their long-term effects on natural science education have gradually become apparent. Initially, the purpose of the classroom was to “interest in children for an introduction to natural sciences”, but this goal was achieved by providing a program that was fun and familiar with natural sciences. But as children get older, we feel that it is not enough to entertain them and now we need to provide them with an education that makes them think deeply. In this presentation, we will report on the educational effects and issues that have been seen, along with trial and error, to make it possible for young children to think about problems, questions, solutions, and ideas under the theme of earth and planetary science.
