Scientists and students of Meiji University along with scientists of other universities, NPO Fukushima Saiseino kai, and local farmers have worked for supporting agricultural renewal since 2011 just after the accident of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Powerplant. Since 2014, we have introduced a nutrient solution cultivation support system to assist the renewal of agriculture through horticulture in greenhouses. In September 2018, we established the Agreement on Earthquake Reconstruction between Iitate Village, Fukushima Prefecture and the School of Agriculture and the Farm at Meiji University to have collaborative work. In the future, the challenge is how to utilize farmland, provide elderly farmers with income opportunities, and support the development of an integrated industry that plays a role in supporting the survival of local agriculture.
