Kanamori (1972) defined “tsunami earthquakes” as earthquakes that excite much stronger tsunami waves than that expected from the amplitude of the earthquake waves. He pointed that tsunami earthquakes always associated with slow crustal deformations with the time scale of several hundred seconds, but did not specify what is the cause of it. In the present presentation, I will look for the possibility that a tsunami earthquake is amplified by large-scale submarine landslides with the area of ~10000 km^2, caused by liquification of the sediments in the slope, induced by vibration of the earthquake.
