In biology, many attempts have been made to evaluate the rarity or representativeness of biological species and to examine indicators to protect species. On the other hand, in geology and geomorphology, such evaluations are not sufficiently performed. In recent years, geopark activities in Japan have been examining evaluation items for the protection of local geoheritage. There are uniqueness, prominence, representativeness, typicality, vulnerability and scarcity and so on.
