Keywords:Regional land use optimization model, Climate change adaptation and mitigation, Land use optimization and management, rural mountain–basin watershed
Land use and land cover change is a main driving force of regional and global climate change, there is growing attraction about the climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in land use and management. Yet the mitigation and adaptation strategies are handled separately at different dimension and spatial level. In this paper, we present a land use optimization model that integrated climate change adaptation and mitigation, then the model was applied to a case study at regional level—Huailai country whose environmental and socioeconomic conditions are sensitive to climate change. The regional land use optimization model is composited by Linear Programming Model and Cellular Automata Model, which incorporated the climate change adaptation and mitigation constraints of land use, include ecological water demand, spatial suitability and carbon sequestration. The model optimization result show that most region of study area could adapt and mitigate to climate change with constant land use pattern, and the land use conversion region under different climate change scenarios are mainly located in the topography transition region. In addition, model results also reveal the tradeoff relationships between climate change adaptation and mitigation, manifested as increase in carbon sequestration and ecological water demand are accompanied by decrease in net income of agricultural production. It is necessary to incorporated climate change adaptation and mitigation simultaneous into land use optimization and management, and the model proposed in this paper provide a feasible method to incorporate them and balance the tradeoff of them in land use pattern optimization at regional scale.
