[MGI36-10] Introduction of TG-Data: IPCC Task Group on Data Support for Climate Change Assessments
Keywords:IPCC, FAIR concept, Data Distribution Center
Task Group on Data Support for Climate Change Assessments (TG-Data), formerly known as Task Group on Scenarios for Climate and Impact Assessment (TGCIA), is a newly established task group on data issues in the 6th assessment cycle of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). One of its most important missions is to collaborate with IPCC’s Working Groups I-III and Data Distribution Centers in order to secure data traceability and long-term data storage. TG-Data aims at enhancing data reliability used in IPCC reports in line with the “FAIR” concept, which stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. The notion is rapidly obtaining popularity in the field of information science dealing with big data. TG-Data is trying to implement the idea of FAIR in the process of IPCC’s assessment. As a first step, it is trying to realize data traceability and transparency for figures appearing in Summary for Policymakers of the Assessment Reports (AR). Specific activities include summarize instructions for Lead Authors on practices following FAIR. The prospect is that, when these efforts bear fruit, scientists in general will gain benefits regarding utilization of data used in ARs.
