[MIS11-18] Outline of JBBP (Japan Beyond-Brittle Project) to drill into supercritical geothermal systems

★Invited Papers

*Hiroshi Asanuma1 (1.AIST)

Keywords:scientific drilling, supercritical geothermal

Target of the JBBP (Japan Beyond-Brittle Project) is to demonstrate presence of ultra-high temperature geothermal resources inside shallow magma chambers. It has been inferred that the geothermal resources is under supercritical condition and nationalwide potential of “Supercritical Geothermal Power Generation” reaches to hundreds GW, although there are a lot of scientific unknowns and necessary technological breakthroughs. NEDO has funded to survey the most promising location of the proof-of-concept drilling and to investigate detailed feasibility of the Supercritical Geothermal Power Generation from FY2018, and 6 related projects are on-going. Outline of the studies in the NEDO Supercritical Geothermal Project and scientific challenges will be presented in the session.
