[MIS14-P02] Outreach activities for radiolarian science since the InterRad 15 in Niigata, 2017

Calendars for the year of 2019 and 2020 were produced for enhancing a degree of social recognition of radiolarians. Images for the 2019 calendar come from radiolarian specimens taken from a single rock sample of earliest Cretaceous (Berriasian) tuffaceous clayey radiolarite collected during a dive of the submersible "Shinkai 6500" along the outer slope of the Mariana Trench. Color images of living radiolarians for the 2020 calendar come from radiolarian specimens in the surface water of the East China Sea near Okinawa Island.

A set of playing cards using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of radiolarian specimens in the same sample as that for the 2019 calendar. The sample contains more than 400 radiolarian species. Candidates of marker taxa defining the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary can be found in the fauna.

A picture book including SEM images of the above-mentioned Maria radiolarians was published in collaboration with a writer and a book producer. Photo exhibitions were organized in relation to this publication in Tokyo, Osaka, Niigata and other cities in Japan.
