The lightning sensor oboard a geostationary satellite is listed as a sensor that should establish a global observation system in the Vision for WIGOS in 2040 defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Operation will begin on a new generation of geosynchronous weather satellites in China, and will be installed on next-generation geosynchronous weather satellites in Europe.
In this talk, we will present on Japanese lightning sensor onboard a next generation geostationary meteorological satellite named Himawari.
