The geophysics professor of Nagoya University Yasuo Shimazu (1926-2019) cultivated the area of environmental assessment not only in the local situation but also in the global simulation. We will trace his ‘logical’ career and geoscientific thought from geophysical geo-theorist including the concepts of earth system science and geo-engineering to environmental practitioner with computer simulation. We will especially focus on his activities in the international ENUWAR program of the 1980s, in which the famous atmospheric scientist Paul J. Crutzen, advocate of ‘Anthropocene’, was also engaged. The lessons from Shimazu’s experience will be discussed in the relation with the nowaday Anthropocene issues.
