[MZZ56-P03] Harnessing the power of geoscience as a vehicle for interdisciplinary collaboration across borders

*Felix Kwabena Donkor1 (1.University of South Africa)

Keywords:Geoscience, Sustainability, cross-disciplinary, Knowledge co-creation, Wicked problems

A core theme in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the need for knowledge co-creation to inform policy and fostering of partnerships that will safeguard sustainability development. Moreover, in our contemporary society characterised by knowledge economies challenged by wicked problems the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations cannot be overemphasised. The field of geoscience provides a unique platform for enhanced cross-disciplinary collaboration by researchers across the globe as well as fostering of crucial partnerships to address some of the pressing global challenges. This study uses the theory of team science to explore the opportunities and constraints of geoscience as a vehicle for international and cross disciplinary research towards sustainability.
