[O05-P17] Practical use of geosites in Sado Island Geopark and the issues related to their use
Keywords:Sado Island, geopark, geotourism, geosite, geological heritage
Some sites have been re-selected on Sado Island Geopark. The island is divided into 10 areas, and we started with selecting the geosites that are closely related to the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) sites, as well to the sites seeking inscription as a UNESCO world heritage on the island.
When re-selecting geosites, those that have not only geological value but also practical facilities such as parking lots and toilets were particularly chosen as “geosites that can be utilized for educational activities and tourism”. These sites are the places where inhabitants and visitors can easily learn about the geo-story of Sado Island.
Over the past year, we have created some new geopark routes and told the public about these geosites at seminars and lectures.
Re-selecting the geosites which are aimed for educational use and tourism allows us to prioritize certain geosites.
I will describe some details about how these sites are being made more accessible, and some issues related to their use.
