[O05-P44] Creating relationship between University of Toyama higher education and Tateyanakurobe Geopark activity

Tateyama Kurobe Geopark consists of 9 municipalities in eastern Toyama Prefecture and the part of Toyama Bay. University of Toyama consists of three campuses, two in Toyama city and one in Takaoka city. The Gofuku and Sugitani campuses in Toyama City are located in Toyama city so that these are in Geopark area. While the Takaoka campus is outside of the area, but overlooks the Tateyama Mountains, which form a symbolic landscape of the Geopark. Since University of Toyama is located in the geopark should be used for higher education contents not only earth science but also humanities and social science education.
There is a class in University of Toyama's liberal arts education course called "Local Development in Toyama". This class is for first-year students, with local government staff giving lectures on local government initiatives in Toyama Prefecture and Toyama City, It consists of a one-day workshop that considers the future regional development of Toyama City.
The Tateyama Kurobe Geopark Association explained about the geopark activities, explained the features of this geopark, the geosite seen from the university campus, and the significance of thinking about Toyama through the geopark. Based on this knowledge, we hold workshops to think about how to solve local issues. In 2018, we considered the local sustainability focus on resilience, and considered what kind of people from outside Toyama Prefecture could be brought in for tourism and migration. In 2019, a workshop was held to give Toyama a look at what it would like to be in 30 years from the perspective of the SDGs. Through these workshops, students were able to use the local government's efforts and geopark knowledge gained in previous classes so that they could be actively used when considering various local issues.

Participants realized the importance of using visible teaching materials in the Geopark area for their own classes. In addition, it was an opportunity to think about how to use the geopark's theme, the 4,000m elevation difference and the water circulation for school education contents.
In this way, geopark and geopark activities have useful contents for higher education. These education trials are gateway for citizens to understand the importance of the Geopark.
