[O05-P46] 30 years since the eruption of Teishi Knoll in 1989

*Yusuke Suzuki1 (1.Izu Peninsula Geopark Promotion Concil)

Keywords:Geopark, Volcanic disaster

On July 13, 1989, a submarine eruption occurred off the coast of Ito city, Shizuoka pref. The Teishi Knoll was formed by this eruption at a depth of about 80m. This year, 2019, has been 30 years since the eruption. It is said that the mass memory of disasters will be lost in about 20 to 30 years. This eruption is a disaster in which it is difficult to maintain local memory because there are no deaths due to the disaster and no remains of the disaster are left.

Izu Tobu Volcano Group including the Teishi Knoll are important heritages in the Izu Peninsula Geopark, and it is necessary to bring the correct knowledge to the local people and use it appropriately. This presentation will report about the activities of the Izu Peninsula Geopark, such as symposiums and video recordings of the seabed, related to the seafloor eruption.
