[SSS16-10] Earthquake fault and severe damage along the Kiyomasa-kodo (Seisho-kodo) during 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, Southwest Japan
Keywords:earthquake fault, earthquake damage, strong ground motion, Koyomasa-kodo, 2016 Kumamoto earthquake
It was confirmed that the seismic fault with consistent right-lateral offsets appeared along the old Kiyomasa-kodo road, during the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake. Many gravestone pedestals collapsed and the houses are severely destroyed close to the road. The stele that had been fixed with four bolts fell out of the pedestal and some buried stone pillars popped out near the surface rupture. Ssevere damage concentrated in the narrow area along the old road strongly suggests that even secondary seismic fault generated strong ground motion in a very shallow part close to the surface fault.
