[M-ZZ49] Earth Systems of the Anthropocene: Natural, Urban and Social Environments

Fri. May 27, 2022 5:15 PM - 6:45 PM Convention Hall (CH)

More than half of the world's population lives in urban areas. The present-day is an era in which human activities rapidly destroy natural environmental systems, and artificial environmental systems such as urbanization are expanding rapidly. It is called the "Anthropocene" and is an era in which the earth system changes drastically depending on the environment, urbanization, society, and information. It is also an era when global warming and climate change threaten human society. The globalization of economic activity has led to a runaway of labor exploitation and destruction of the natural environment in the Global South. Global environmental risks such as global warming will be passed on to future societies. A characteristic of the Anthropocene earth system is that local socio-human activities and urbanization affect the natural environment. In contrast, global changes in the earth's environment affect individual communities and humans. Another feature is that it affects future society and human beings over time. This session will discuss the global system from multiple perspectives such as environment, urbanization, and socio-human activities toward a sustainable society.
