[S-SS04] Seismic Spectra for Source, Subsurface Structure, and Strong-motion Studies

Mon. May 23, 2022 5:15 PM - 6:45 PM Exhibition Hall 8

Seismic spectral analysis is widely used in seismology. The simplicity of the spectral analysis enables us to study numerous earthquakes at once and improve our understanding of earthquake source physics (e.g., the scaled energy and stress drop), the seismic attenuation structure, and the seismic site response. We usually extract one of the effects of the earthquake source, wave propagation, and site response from seismograms by muting the others. A comprehensive understanding of observed seismic spectra requires integrating the knowledge and techniques from all these subfields of seismology. This session aims at cross-disciplinary discussions on source physics, subsurface structure (especially attenuation structure), and strong-motion evaluation to decipher problems in each field. Papers on seismic spectral studies for the elucidation of phenomena are appropriate. Moreover, we welcome presentations on the robustness of the spectral analysis and the development of improved techniques to study, for example, earthquake rupture directivity and complexity. Spectral studies on slow earthquakes, induced earthquakes, and volcanic earthquakes are also encouraged.
