With the 94GHz Doppler Cloud Profiling Radar and the 355 nm high-spectral-resolution lidar, the JAXA/ESA EarthCARE satellite will soon be proving information on cloud microphysics and in-cloud vertical motions. This paper introduces the active sensor-based JAXA standard/research algorithms with improved treatments of cloud particle non-sphericity and multiple scattering as well as ground-based validation activities for the EarthCARE mission for cloud/precipitation microphysics, particle sedimentation and vertical velocities.
