[ACG38-10] The challenge to detect plant phenology using two green bands of GCOM-C/SGLI

*Tomoko Kawaguchi Akitsu1, Kenlo Nishida Nasahara2 (1.Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, 2.University of Tsukuba)

Keywords:GCOM-C, SGLI, Phenology, PRI, Detecting the matured leaves season

Plant phenology is the key factor of vegetation productivity. Therefore, numerous studies have focused on detecting leaf onset and offset using the vegetation index (such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, NDVI, and Enhanced Vegetation Index, EVI). However, the definition and detection of the offset day remain obscure. Furthermore, although many studies detect the onset and completion of leaf expansion, few studies distinguish the matured leaves season from the young (but sufficiently large) leaves season. The GCOM-C/SGLI can detect the Photochemical Reflectance Index (PRI) using two green bands. The two green bands are useful for detecting PRI and the above-mentioned phenological stages.
